welcome to the challenge!
Nicole's Challenge: The Walk to Cure Encephalitis is Encephalitis411's signature fundraiser. Each year we host an event in honor of Nicole Seiler, a beloved 12-year old from California who tragically passed away in 2011. Her unexpected death occurred only days after being diagnosed with encephalitis.
Nicole's mother, Suzanne Spector, and her twin brother, Michael Seiler, founded an annual walk with the goal of sparing other families the agony of losing a loved one to the disease. Their fundraising efforts provided Encephalitis411 with the seed money necessary to become an established 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The annual Nicole's Challenge event continues the legacy and pays tribute to Nicole while honoring the stories of those impacted by encephalitis. |
2022 challengeEncephalitis411 invites you to join us for the 2022 edition of the event! For this year's challenge, Wipe Out Encephalitis, we are hosting a virtual walk that kicks off on July 28 (Nicole's birthday) and runs through the end of September.
This year's 10th anniversary edition features a friendly competition. Who will raise the most funds: will it be Team Infectious Encephalitis, or Team Autoimmune Encephalitis? Find out which team will be the Wipe Out winner after the virtual walk concludes on September 30 at 23:59 PST. You can get in on the action by a) participating in the walk; b) fundraising for a team; or c) simply donating to a team. All ages and skill levels are welcome! |
Your support is critical to helping improve the quality of life for those impacted by encephalitis. Thanks to your generous contributions over the past decade, Encephalitis411 has directly helped thousands of encephalitis patients, caregivers, doctors, and other community members across the U.S! We appreciate your support for 2022.

2022 results
While Team Infectious Encephalitis accounted for over half of all donations and blazed across the finish line in first place, we wouldn’t have reached our goal without the critical contributions of Team Autoimmune Encephalitis, OnTarget Partners, the family of Nicole Seiler, and generous individuals from across the entire Encephalitis411 community. Every dollar makes a difference, enabling us to increase the impact of our research, awareness, and advocacy initiatives as we look ahead to 2023.
