Are you interested in contributing your time to the encephalitis community? We’d love for you to join us in our mission of improving the quality of life for those impacted by encephalitis through advocacy, awareness, and research. We are always looking for volunteers to help us achieve our mission. Each role is vital to being an extension of Encephalitis411 in howwe can support the diverse needs of encephalitis survivors, caregivers, healthcare teams, and the general public.
Welcome Team
Everyone likes to feel welcomed, especially during one of the toughest trials of their lives. Be part of a team who makes others feel part of the community, who need encouragement, or are engaging for the first time.
- Welcome new members (email, social media, Inspire.com)
- Update contact database with new members
- Read and respond to Inspire and Encephalitis Global social media posts
- Send welcome and/or thank-you notes
- Check the general inbox for needs, registrations, and solicitations
- Monitor the website’s incoming post
Communications Team
Ever get an email that’s missing a critical piece of information? Or has a typo? Or the layout is so busy that it creates confusion? Join our comms team to write, edit, proofread, design or lay out copy to be professional, accurate, and concise.
- Write newsletter articles or blogs
- Proofread communications prior to release
- Create content of all types, including social media, website updates, campaigns, collateral, newsletters, articles, blogs, press releases, and advertisements
- Create graphic design and layout
- Ensure brands standards are being met
- Update and maintain media list
- Keep a tab on encephalitis in the news and new scholarly articles
- Create competitions and other means of increasing engagement
Digital Team
As the digital world expands, so do our needs in launching successful campaigns, analyzing website and social media trends, and refreshing content. Get experience on your resume while helping others!
- Create landing pages for campaigns
- Analyze website and social media trends
- Refresh the website on a consistent basis
- Bring best practices to improve website performance
- Develop fundraising pages for specific events
- Search for photos that are relevant to content

Rainmaking Team
True rainmakers find money. They know the methods to source funding, network with others, pitch a story, and build interest in fundraisers. Funding is critical to keeping our doors open to help those impacted by encephalitis. What’s your rainmaking super power?
- Monetizing merchandise
- Correspond with potential donors and sponsors
- Recruit sponsors for big events
- Write grants
- Contact companies/employees that offer matching donations
- Engage with corporate philanthropic contacts
Smile Team
Sometimes you just need a reason to smile. To forget about the daily challenges. To give someone a healthy distraction from reality. Bring smiles by finding inspirational quotes or photos, or a funny meme, or even find encephalitis-related personal stories that we lived to not forget!
- Scan for appropriate memes to reduce stress
- Identify funny encephalitis stories among survivors and caregivers who want to share
- Share words, photos or images of inspiration
- Compliment others on sharing their heart
- Write a cute poem that conveys the encephalitis experience
- Encourage others to post milestones and achievements to celebrate
Outreach Team
For nonprofits, outreach is so critical to pitching stories, recruiting donors, and broadening awareness in general. Be part of a team who is confident and bold about advocating for encephalitis using your cheerful personality, connections, or sleuth skills.

Helping Hands Team
Most encephalitis survivors are so grateful to meet other survivors … whether online, in person, or through a call. Many survivors like to “pay it forward” to make the next person’s journey easier if possible. Whether it’s identifying that the topic of ‘memory’ needs more attention, researching for a hospital in a specific city, or facilitating a support group, you can impact the lives of people who are now in your shoes.
- Research specific needs to help families in crisis
- Design surveys to publish new findings about encephalitis
- Look for trends in social media posts to direct content needs
- Answer the hotline to gather needs
- Pray for families requesting prayer
- Facilitate support groups
Happenings Team
Coming to a city near you! As a nonprofit focused on the U.S. and Canada, we like to get up close when we can. Each year we host events via Zoom, and also in locations spread across the States. Want to be part of a local team so you can be the expert on your own turf? We always need support in navigating different locations, knowing the right people, and promoting interest in activities.
- Host local on-site events
- Provide input on agendas
- Find credible speakers on specific topics
- Facilitate local in-person workshops
- Participate in leading or being part of a national or local walk

Partners are a key part of the support we provide. But we can’t know everyone on our own. For those with business relationships—big and small, use your leverage to find matching donations, get encephalitis added as a corporate initiative, or write grants to organizations who could broaden our reach.

Organizational Team
You know what they say about successful executives? Their success often is a direct correlation to the people behind the scenes who really know what’s going on. We have several roles that organize us in a way to keep contacts updated, get events advertised, and solve for growing demands for managing data.
